“From Vision to Practice: UNESCO’s Efforts to Implement the Framework for Culture and Arts Education”

In February 2024, Ministers of Culture and Education endorsed the UNESCO Framework for Culture and Arts Education, marking a pivotal moment in global efforts to place culture and the arts at the heart of inclusive, quality education. Developed through an extensive global consultation process, the Framework promotes a holistic, lifelong, and cross-sectoral approach to learning—recognizing cultural diversity, Indigenous knowledge systems, and creative expression as central to sustainable development.
This presentation will focus on UNESCO’s current efforts to operationalize the Framework. These include the development of a comprehensive Implementation Guidance providing practical and action-oriented recommendations for policymakers and a wide range of stakeholders, the creation of practical tools such as toolkits and step-by-step guides, and the promotion of coordinated national and regional initiatives.
